7 things you should do on your next leave

After working for 2 weeks, the realities of adulting starts to hit you and you start mentally planning for leave you know you can’t take at least for the next 6 months. Then, when you eventually get a leave, you don’t know what to do with it. Like, it’s a Monday morning and I don’t have to go to work.

For most people, before you come to terms with the fact that you have these few days to yourself to do whatever you want, you realize that your leave is over, just like that.

How has it ended already?

Here are suggestions on 7 things you could do on your next leave

1. Spend time with Family

This applies more to people who do not live with family anymore. You are probably a Lagos big boy with a place of your own and going to Ikorodu or Abeokuta is like a lot of work for you so you show up at home once in a blue moon. This is the time to spend a few days with your family. Go home, gist with your dad and mum. Take your siblings out. Cook a meal for them or if you are lazy like me, just eat their food. You are free to eat without worrying about how the food was made or the dent to your pocket.

2. See a movie

If you were a not so privileged undergraduate like me, you would remember how you time your movie dates to align with the free popcorn and drink day. It was the best. When you start working, you realize that you can only see movies after 5pm on weekdays and weekends and public holiday. I know you are rich now and can afford to but saving a little cash just because you can never hurt nobody. Make use of the free popcorn and drink day and watch a movie during the daytime when there are not so many people. Chances are you won’t have to drag your favorite seats with a lot of people

3. Read a book

I’ve heard so many working class people “throwing back” to when they had time and used to read in conversations. Well, your leave is a great time to catch up on a book. Any book will do. You can set targets for yourself to complete a certain number of pages every day, that way, you can be sure to have read a book or two by the end of the year.

4. Catch up on your favorite TV show

This is a great time to binge on those series. You’ve never seen an episode of Game of Thrones? Get on it. You’d be glad you did. I am not the best person to give advice on tv series to watch but I believe everyone has that one friend that is helpful in that area.

5. Spoil yourself

If you are on leave and working with a budget, dealdey is your best friend. It will find you mouth-watering deals; buffet, spa treatment, discount tickets to shows and so on. You’d realize that spoiling yourself has never been this affordable. Have the experience and feel like a baby girl/boy again.

6. Travel

Every time I suggest traveling to some people, they already start imagining some exotic holiday. Two nights in Ibiza, another one in Zanzibar. That would be awesome if you can afford it. If not, travel interstate. Decide to visit a place you have never been to. There are so many amazing tourist destinations in Nigeria that you can visit. Depending on your taste. If you are a bask in nature with a glass of wine kinda person, IITA works. If you are an adrenaline junkie like me, try something exciting, idanre hills, erin ijesha waterfalls etc

7. Sleep

This is the perfect time to catch up on sleep. You know how sleep refuses to come when you have all the time in the world for it, this may be the case. So the best option would be to wear yourself out. Come back from your trip on Friday or Saturday and sleep all day and all night. Sleep so much that you feel like a newborn baby when you wake up on Monday morning to reality. If you work and live in Lagos, I definitely don’t envy you and your chaotic life. You will probably require this break more than the rest of us

These are some suggestions that can be helpful to anyone going on leave anytime soon. Most of the points can also be applied to long public holidays.

These may be basic stuff that people should know already but sometimes, we need to be reminded about the basic things of life :)

Thanks for reading. I’d be glad to hear your suggestions or tips on how best to spend one’s leave or how you’ve spent yours. :*
